With a human resource base of 1.5 million residents in Pemalang Regency and the existing productive age potential, in 2024 the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Pemalang Regency is expected to grow by 5.11 percent.This growth is higher than that of Central Java Province (4.95 percent) and even the National level (5.03 percent).However, behind the good achievements of Pemalang Regency, its poverty rate is still relatively high and needs to be a shared concern.The poverty rate in Pemalang Regency in 2024, based on the March 2024 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas), reached 14.92%.This figure has decreased compared to the poverty rate in 2023, which was 15.03%.

In relation to this matter, the Pemalang Regency BPS held an audience in the Gadri Room of the Pemalang Regent's Office on Monday (14/4).This event was attended by the Regent, Vice Regent, Secretary, and the ranks of the Pemalang Regency OPD who handle Basic Services.

To measure poverty, BPS uses the basic needs approach.Residents are categorized as poor if they have an average per capita monthly expenditure below the poverty line.The poverty line for Pemalang Regency in 2024 is recorded at 493,593 rupiah per capita per month.

Most of the people in Pemalang Regency work in the agricultural, industrial, and trade sectors.Delving deeper into the results of the National Labor Survey (Sakernas), a picture of the employment conditions that are the root of poverty issues in Pemalang Regency is obtained.

The Regent of Pemalang responded positively to the BPS as a data provider, which is certainly very useful as a basis for determining policies and development programs to be implemented so that they are on target.
